The Benedictine Ravens have now punched their ticket to Daytona Beach for the NAIA National Championship game in two weeks. They defeated the high-powered Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes 43-21. It was a back-and-forth affair in the first half, and a very physical one at that. The Ravens were able to finish the Coyotes off in the second half, outscoring the Coyotes 23-7 in the second half.

Game Balls

The game balls for both teams have to go to the running backs. Marquis Stewart had an absolute monstrous day rushing for 286 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries. Coyote tailback Demarco Prewitt scored all three touchdowns for Kansas Wesleyan, and had over 100 yards rushing.

The Difference

Kansas Wesleyan had an absolutely historic season, but I thought Benedictine did a great job wearing out the Coyote defense. The Ravens ran a total of 74 plays, 57 of which were rushing attempts. Benedictine pounded the Coyotes for 399 rushing yards. When you cannot stop the run, your defense is in bad shape. It really showed in the second half – KWU was simply gassed and the Ravens just continued to manhandle them up front with the running game.

What’s Next

Kansas Wesleyan has nothing to to be upset about, they had their best season in school history, and represented the KCAC well. I can guarantee you more people will be taking the KCAC more seriously, and watching out for KWU. Congratulations to the Coyotes on this amazing season, enjoy your time with Coach Drinkall!

Benedictine is off to Daytona, and are going against the juggernauts of Morningside. With their ability to run the ball, and physical play, you cannot count the Ravens out.
